Main Characters
Trixie Belden: The series starts with 13yr old Trixie Belden meeting her new neighbour Honey Wheeler. Trixie has short blonde curly hair and her birthday is May 1st. Her full name is Beatrix which she dislikes so she insists on being called Trixie. She is a bit of a tomboy and wishes at time she was more ladylike. She at times suffers from insecurities about her looks and compares herself to others that she feels are more beautiful. Her hobbies include Horse riding and sports like Basketball and Ice skating as well as helping charities and people in general.

Trixie is far from perfect and does make her share of mistakes. She is however heroic when faced with danger and has great intuition and a sixth sense and knows when something is up. When she finishes school Trixie would like to become a detective and have her own detective agency with best friend Honey Wheeler. In the meantime Trixie is an average student who struggles with Math's. Trixie is romantically linked to Jim Frayne early in the series but this is played down in later books.

Brian Belden: Brian is Trixie's older brother who was born on October 22nd. He is described as tall, dark hair and with dark eyes and is similar in looks to their father. Brian's ambition is to become a doctor in the future and he seriously studies the subject and helps with any first aid needed in the stories. He drives a car and he and Jim often share responsibilities of being the Bob Whites driver to get places. Brain is seen as sensible, calm, level headed and responsible.

Mart Belden: Born June 1st Mart is described as having the same blonde hair as Trixie which has been shaped into a crew cut to remove the curls. With blue eyes and freckle Mart is eleven months older than Trixie. He loves to tease Trixie and is often the comic of a situation but he is very close to his sister and prepared to jump into danger to help her. (Often without telling her his plan first) He uses big words in an attempt to baffle the others and to impress them. Diane Lynch is often impressed with him and he loves the attention. Only a small romantic attachment for Di is referred to in the series however and in one of the early books he tries to beat Brian at carrying Honey's things to gain her attention.

Madeleine (Honey) Wheeler: Madeleine is called 'Honey' due to her shoulder length Honey colored hair. She is the only daughter of a wealthy family and before coming to live in Sleepyside she suffered from many illnesses. Since meeting Trixie she has done a complete turn around and is an active, healthy girl who is a strong swimmer and horseback rider and Trixie's partner in solving crimes. Like Trixie after college she wishes to become a detective. It is also suggested that Honey would make a great nurse. Honey is very loyal to her friends but can be over trusting of strangers that can lead her into danger. She enjoys sewing and has a romantic interest in Brian Belden which is only ever lightly addressed and hinted at in the series.

Jim Frayne: Jim is an orphan and the adopted brother of Honey Wheeler. His full name is James Winthrop Frayne 11. He is independently wealthy from a great inheritance and intends to use his money once he finishes college to set up a school to help underprivileged boys. Jim has red hair, green eyes, freckles and was born in July. his hobbies include Horseback riding, swimming and hunting. Jim is referred to as having a hot temper but he cools down quick and is fair. Jim has a romantic interest in Trixie and often comes to her rescue or is first to volunteer to help her face an obstacle in solving the latest crime /puzzle.

Diana Lynch: Diana is the eldest daughter in the Lynch family and has two younger sets of twins (brothers and sisters) Diana use to live in Main Street and has always attended the same school as Trixie. They were good friends when they were younger but their friendship suffered when Diana's' father became a millionaire and they moved to a huge estate on the outskirts of town. She was introduced in #4 The Mysterious Visitor, though her name was mentioned in #2 The Red Trailer Mystery. In the forth book of the series they renew their friendship through Honey who feels sorry for the lonely Diana. Honey asks Di to join them at her house. Trixie and Diana Lynch were friends for years before Di’s family became fabulously rich. So when Di’s long-lost uncle starts ruining her social life, Di turns to her old friend for help. But Trixie thinks Uncle Monty isn’t just an annoying relative–she thinks he’s an impostor!
Diana is described as the prettiest girl in the school with Black hair and violet eyes. In stories it is said she takes the longest to get ready. In book 16 of the series she stated she use to want to be an an air stewardess after school and now she was thinking she would be a stay at home Mom. Later she develops an interest in drawing and art.
She shows an interest in Mart Belden which isn't developed in the series however obvious that it is there. She is the second most absent participant from adventures with excuses usually ranging from her being away traveling with her family.
Di's Description:

Dan Mangan: The last Bob White to join the gang Dan doesn't appear until book eight in the series when he is seen as a juvenile villain. Trixie especially takes an instant dislike for him in his Black Leather Jacket and what she believes to be his street gang ties to "The Cowhands". Dan like Jim is an orphan and had a rough upbringing. As a result he fell into the wrong crowd and he is sent to his uncle in Sleepyside as a last resort to straighten him out. He is the nephew of Bill Regan, an employee on the Wheeler estate. He is described as having dark hair with sideburns and dark eyes. Dan misses out on more mysteries than the others as he has to work his way through school and study to catch up years that he missed and to help support himself. A romantic interest is formed between him and Trixie's cousin Hallie Belden though many Trixe fans see him as a good alternate match to her. He is often very supportive of Trixie and reasons out problems in a similar manner to her. Dan wishes to be a New York Policeman after he finishes school and he is seventeen in the series.
