The Famous Five Series was written by Enid Byton with the first title in the series being published in 1942. The series was equally popular with both girls and boys as the main characters were 2 boys, 2 girls (one of which was a tomboy) and a dog.
21 books were written for the series as it proved to be very popular with children.
In the Series Julian, Dick and Anne are brothers and sister whilst George (real name Georgina) is their cousin and Timmy is her dog.
The Adventures in the series occur during the school holidays when all four meet up and have exciting mysteries to solve together. During the school term Anne and George go to the same girls boarding school whilst Julian and Dick attend a boys boarding school together.

- 13) Five Go to Mystery Moor (1954)
- 14) Five Have Plenty of Fun (1955)
- 15) Five on a Secret Trail (1956)
- 16) Five Go to Billycock Hill (1957)
- 17) Five Get Into a Fix (1958)
- 18) Five on Finniston Farm (1959)
- 19) Five Go to Demon's Rocks (1960)
- 20) Five Have a Mystery to Solve (1962)
- 21) Five Are Together Again (1962)
The popularity of the book series has resulted in movies and tv series. The most popular series arguably was the 1970's TV Series which starred Michele Gallagher as George, Marcus Harris as Julian, Gary Russell as Dick and Jenny Thanisch as Anne, while Timmy the dog was played by a Border Collie called Toddy.
